Welcome to the Year of the Rat!
Posted on Jan 20, 2020
Saturday, January 25th is the start of Chinese New Year! We welcome the new year on that day and enjoy the year of the Metal Rat until the it ends on February 11, 2021.
As some of you may already know, each year in the Chinese lunar calendar corresponds to one of twelve animals. The Rat is the first sign from the 12 animals cycle of the Chinese Zodiac, and for this reason, this time period is considered a year of new beginnings and renewals. Each year is also thought to be governed by one of the five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Metal Rats tend to be reliable and live a stable life. They may hold some power and are able to turn unlucky events into fortune.
Autumn is the energy of Metal, the time when nature sheds its leaves and rids itself of what is not needed. Using those leaves, the metal energy produces a fertile compost, enriching the soil, ensuring the next cycle has the nutrients it needs to grow. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, metal governs the lungs, large intestine, nose and skin. The negative emotion associated with metal is grief, while the positive emotion is courage.
The Metal Rat year is going to be a strong, prosperous, and luck year for all. Everyone will show determination regarding their goals, aspiration. All the actions initiated this year are driven by success. Follow your goals with confidence and determination.
Whatever plans you have for the year of the Metal Rat, I hope it is full of wonderful things. As we say in Chinese, 新年快樂! (xin nian kuai le), or Happy New Year to you all! I wish you a prosperous, happy, and healthy year.
